We're on a mission from God.

The Blues Brothers (1980)
Happy Tax Day! Not sure what happened to this post, but it looks like it got deleted somehow. So I guess... Congrats to anyone who got a tax refund?! I spent mine on a solar charger for all our upcoming summer music festivals :)

Yay 80s movies! I'd forgotten how much fun this one is to watch. It's a goofy thrill ride that doesn't take itself too seriously. Unlike most movies born of SNL masterminds, this one doesn't feel like an extended, never-ending sketch. And it's a fantastic showcase for some amazing musical talent.

Jake, fresh out of prison, and his brother Elwood, are on a mission (from God) to raise $5,000 to pay off the property tax for the orphanage they grew up in. Of course, the only solution is to get the old band back together, taking extreme liberties with physics and making many enemies along the way. They run into Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Cab Calloway, among others.

And hey, is that Carrie Fisher? Wow she's got terrible aim; she's tried to kill them at least seven times already and failed each time. Throw in some epic chase scenes, lots of car pileups, cowboys, Nazis, and plenty of energetic songs, and you've got yourself a fun night. Can't type any more... gotta go watch Dan Aykroyd dance :D

"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

  • 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

Cocktail #2: Orange Whip
"Who wants an Orange Whip? Orange Whip? Orange Whip? Three Orange Whips!"
From The Webtender.
  • 4 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz rum
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz cream
Pour ingredients over ice and stir.

I wanted to like this drink, I really did. I love creamsicles, and this had such great potential for a creamsicle-y / summery drink. But there was just something about it - I don't think i could stomach more than one. Maybe I'll play with it and try to tweak the balance a bit. Will let you guys know what happens!
