Happy Thanksgiving!

Howdy folks! I do hope you'll indulge me for doing my first non-movie-related post; I'm just excited to share our brand new bar shelving, and a few seasonal cocktails I've totally been crushing on lately but was too impatient to wait for the right films to pair them with. So here are a few freebies!

Sometimes we all do things that just don't make no sense.

Forrest Gump (1994)
AFI 100 Years... 100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) Ranking: #76

So I stumbled across a Reddit thread a while back about the most misunderstood character in all fiction, and was struck by /u/Namtara’s answer about Jenny from Forrest Gump. It’s definitely worth a read, but the long and short of it is this:

"tl;dr: Jenny wasn't really a bitch. She was simply afraid of taking advantage of Forrest, given her own abusive background, and unaware that he could experience true love. So she kept suppressing her own emotions and running away from him."

He's on deep background. I call him deep... throat.

All the President's Men (1976)
AFI 100 Years... 100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) Ranking: #77
It's like watching Titanic... yeah, I know how it's going to end, but I still enjoy the story.

The Blues Brothers (1980)

Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)
Author Walter Mosley was honored this past weekend at the National Black Writers' Conference in New York City. What better time to watch the film version of one of his most popular novels, Devil in a Blue Dress?

You Can't Take it With You (1938)
Starring Jimmy Stewart, Jean Arthur, and director Frank Capra in their first collaboration together (the second one being Mr Smith Goes to Washington), this is a fun, quirky romp with a moral: the love of friends and family is more important than all the money you can make in a lifetime.

Some things are just better in black and white.

Peanut butter & jelly. Cookies & milk. Salt & pepper. Alcohol and... movies? YESSS.
But not just any alcohol. And not just any movies. Welcome to CineMixers.
